Hwang Ye-ji (Korean: 황예지; born May 26, 2000), known by her stage name Yeji, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is currently the leader of the South Korean girl group Itzy.
Early Life[change]
Hwang Ye-ji grew up in Jeonju. While in elementary school, she wished to be a singer. Her older sister inspired her to start dancing. She began to take an interest in the art form and soon joined the local dance group. She then later moved to Seoul to pursue her dancing and singing career.
Career[change]
2015–2018: Pre-debut[change]
In 2015, Yeji successfully passed her audition to join JYPE as a trainee by performing Twice's song "Like Ooh-Ahh". In 2017, she appeared on the first episode of Stray Kids, alongside her future fellow Itzy members Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna. In 2018, she participated in SBS' The Fan, where she was referred to as "JYP’s Secret Weapon".
2019–present: Itzy and solo debut[change]
Yeji officially debuted with Itzy in February 2019, with the release of their debut single album, It'z Different, and the music video for the lead single "Dalla Dalla"[1] The group quickly amassed a global fanbase, and have since released multiple hits. They have embarked on tours across Asia, Oceania, the Americas and Europe.
In February 2025, the official trailer for Yeji's debut solo EP Air released. The album is set to release on March 10.[2]
