Ussel (Occitan: Ussèl) is a French commune, a subprefecture in the Corrèze department in central France. It is in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is also the capital of the arrondissement of Ussel.
It is the capital of the old, historical region of Haute-Corrèze.
Geography[change]
Ussel is in the Massif Central on the foot of the plateau de Millevaches. The city itself is on top of a hill between the valleys of the Diège and the Sarsonne rivers.
The commune of Ussel has an area of 50.4 km2 (19.5 sq mi),[2] and its average altitude is 685 m (2,247 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 620 m (2,030 ft).[3]
The city of Ussel is at about 294 km (183 mi) from Bordeaux, at 295 km (183 mi) from Toulouse, at 483 km (300 mi) from Paris and at 266 km (165 mi) from Lyon.
