The Royal Thai Army (Thai: กองทัพบกไทย) is the army of Thailand. It is responsible for protecting Thailand's sovereignty (protecting the country). It is the oldest and largest branch of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. The army was formed in 1874. This was just before the Bowring Treaty was signed with Britain.[1] The treaty opened up Thailand for international trade.[2]
