Parthenon Frieze[change]

Parthenon Frieze (edit · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete) · close request

Rathfelder has nominated this page for deletion for the reason: Same as Elgin Marbles. The two should be merged. I think Elgin Marbles is the more commonly used term. Rathfelder (talk) 18:11, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

Please discuss this request below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options other than "keep" or "delete", such as merging.

Discussion[change]

  • File:Symbol delete vote.svg Delete The article makes it sound like the two terms mean the same thing, but they don't. The frieze is only part of the marbles. We could redirect to Elgin Marbles (which should probably be renamed, but that's not a discussion for here), but there aren't any incoming links and there isn't anything in this article that's specific to the frieze anyway. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:15, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
  • File:Symbol delete vote.svg Delete per Auntof6's comments. AJ (talk) 03:14, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
  • File:Symbol keep vote.svg Keep There are separate English Wikipedia articles for this and Elgin Marbles and they certainly seem notable enough. At worst, they could be merged. Blissyu2 (talk) 10:05, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
I am not an art hisotrian, but from what I understand, the Elgin Marbles is mostly the Partenon Frieze, plus a few statues, and other smaller items. I don't know where it is treated, but there is a large-scale discussion on which items should be given back to Greece. Currently, they are spread over 7-8 museums; most is in the British Museum. Eptalon (talk) 10:11, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
That may well be true, and if so then a merge might be in order. Blissyu2 (talk) 11:06, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Yes, there are separate articles at enwiki, but there's next to nothing about the frieze in the article here. This isn't a question of notability, it's a question of whether there's enough content in the article. We have to evaluate what we have, not what enwiki has. -- Auntof6 (talk) 11:56, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
    • File:Symbol comment vote.svg Comment: It seems like it is a question of whether we want two articles like an EN-wiki or have just one. That seems to be the issue here. It is clearly notable. Blissyu2 (talk) 05:34, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
