Alemaña[change]
Gotanda has nominated this page for deletion for the reason: There is already an ongoing discussion regarding these. This one in particular highlights the maintenance costs and possible confusion. The first listed "alternative language" is incorrect (Latin). This example also shows that there is a massive number of possible, if unlikely redirects which add complexity to the wiki. As has been said on this wiki many times, Simple is not just simplified English, but that we do things simply here. These add complexity and should be deleted. Please discuss this request below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options other than "keep" or "delete", such as merging.
Discussion[change]
- File:Symbol keep vote.svg Keep - Strong keep. Alamannia, also spelt Alemannia is a Latin word to describe the land of Germanic Alemanni people. Alemaña is a word to describe Germany in Catalan language, Galician language, Asturian language, Aragonese language and other languages that evolved from the Latin language. I don’t get why this simple redirect is “complex”. Deppiyy (talk) 03:32, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
- File:Symbol delete vote.svg Delete--A relevant talk page says that: " There is no need for non-English language disambig pages because there should be no incoming links to them. Links should always go to the correct article. So the hypothetical [... foreign language ] speaking user will never just come across the term, they will have to search for it. If there is no exact match, it indicates that it is not an English word, and the English [our] alternative will come up as the top search result (as it does on EnWP). Adding this will just create ambiguity, not clarify it. This opens up endless non-English redirects and adds to potential confusion. This is Simple English Wikipedia. Adding more non-English words adds complexity, not simplicity".
The post of 03:32 today, (arguably) does not have anything to offer that goes beyond "my" borrowed quote.--Related page - Wikipedia:Requests_for_deletion#Namibië. 89.8.173.218 (talk) 11:05, 5 February 2022 (UTC) 89.8.173.218 (talk) 11:07, 5 February 2022 (UTC) - File:Symbol delete vote.svg Delete - per nom, noting that the enWP article redirects to a completely different topic (it's amazing how words mean different things in different languages). However, I think that this RFD should be closed based on the result of the community discussion at WP:ST to maintain consistency. Griff (talk) 19:25, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
