List of chess Grandmasters[change]
Lauryn☆ has nominated this page for deletion for the reason:
- Article that is nothing but a list of entirely red-linked names. No references, none of these people have articles; is this really something that we should have?
Please discuss this deletion below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options that are not just "keep" or "delete", such as merging.
Discussion[change]
- Weak delete - Although I've heard and know what a chess grandmaster is, this page has no introduction on what is one, and is simply a list of them with no sources. However I have to say this article was only created 3 days ago so there wasn't enough time passed for more than one user in the history of the page to work on it meaning it isn't what you would call an article in shape. - Keep - Indeed its not the best looking article, but I'm not done yet as Nifky said. The reason for my slow pace is that a pretty bad snow storm came though and knocked out my internet. It is working now but for how long I don't know. There will be another snow storm predicted to happen on Mon-Tue and will probably knock out the web again. I will take your comments and fix the article as fast as I can. I will also try to lower case the last names of the chess grandmasters as well as add some refs. Should I add the website I got the list off of to the refs? Ian ♠♣♦♥ McCarty 16:44, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Comment - As I'm putting the last names in lower case letters, some blue links are starting to pop up. If someone can help me put the last names in lower case letters that would be very very very helpful. Thanks. Ian ♠♣♦♥ McCarty 16:53, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Keep: Perfectly reasonable list. Purplebackpack89 (Notes Taken) (Trails blazed) 20:18, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Keep Does not violate the deletion policy, no reason to delete. —§ stay (sic)! 00:26, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- Delete A list full of redlinks isn't helpful at all for a wiki. A list that starts with the word current in the first sentence isn't really something we should have. I don't how often the current will change, but this isn't really a good idea. There are no sources on this article. Where does this list come from? Who decides who a grandmaster is and who not. Sorry, but seems to me a bad idea to keep this list. -Barras talk 23:37, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- I believe it's based on a "rating" based on how you do in certain tournaments. A better list would be list of chess world champions (Kasparov, Fischer, etc.) Purplebackpack89 (Notes Taken) (Trails blazed) 03:23, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, it seems sad to delete an article with so much good effort put into it. Maybe this kind would be more appropriate as a category? Classical Esther 09:07, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- Keep: Just because it has some red links is no reason to delete the article. Also, after reading I-ons reasonable comments, I am sure you shouldn't delete it. He's trying to participate, and it's not his fault that a snowstorm is coming, even though that excuse sounds a bit fishy. Guess he lives in a place where there are lots of snowstorms... and bad weather... but anyway, you should assume good faith, as I always try to. :) Let's trust him for now, and be more slow on the deletion--the article can be fixed, I'm sure, with more help and more skilled editors and a hopeful delay of I-ons "snowstorm" ;). Just wait a while, and if you can, Lauryn, please help in improving it! I'll try my best, too, but I'm so dumb about chess and those kind of things... Rather change articles about baking and cakes. Anyway, let's be a little bit more patient on this article, and keep it for now. Miss Tilney (talk) 12:30, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- Keep: long list with mostly red-links. but still a notable list.--Sinbad (talk) 16:45, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
