Luxor (Arabic: الأقصر) is a city in Upper Egypt. In 2012, about 506,588 people lived there.[1] To tourists, it is mostly known because of Karnak, as well as other tourist sites nearby.

Because the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes is located in Luxor,[2] the city has been called the "world's greatest open-air museum." On the other side of the Nile lies the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens.
