The King Fahd Causeway is a causeway joining Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The idea to make the causeway was to improve the connections between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.[2] Surveying began in 1968. Construction began in 1981. In 1986 it was opened to the public.

In 2008 there was an average of 48,600 passengers per day.[3]
