Chicken katsu is a Japanese food made of thin fried chicken pieces that are covered with katsu sauce.[1] The same sauce is used to make tonkatsu, a food made of fried pork.
History[change]
Chicken katsu was invented in the 1800s,[2] after British sailors brought Indian curry to Japan. The Japanese used curry to make new types of food, including katsu sauce.[3]
Ingredients[change]
Thin pieces of chicken are covered with egg and breadcrumbs and then fried in oil.[4] The cooked chicken is eaten with katsu sauce. Katsu sauce is made out of Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, tomatoes and spices.[1]
