Lua error in Module:Nihongo at line 88: attempt to call field '_transl' (a nil value). is the national bicameral legislature of Japan. The National Diet Building is in Nagatachō, Chiyoda, Tokyo.

It is made up of the House of Representatives (lower house) and the House of Councillors (upper house).[1] The members of both houses of the Diet are directly elected. The Diet selects the Prime Minister.

The Diet was first convened as the Imperial Diet in 1889.[1]

In 1947, the Diet took its current form.[2]
